The Journey So Far

Spirit Road History

Sp.Rd 42_3 Spirit Road Radio began broadcasting in February 2006. Sponsored by the AFSCME labor union, our first show highlighted today’s childcare crisis and the work to organize MN childcare workers. Since then we aired monthly on AM 950-KTNF for three years. Each August we’d broadcast live from the MN State Fair. Over thirty-six shows we developed and tightened the format while clarifying our mission. Past guests include:
  • Neale Donald Walsch, Conversations With God author, and Steven Simon, Conversations With God film producer/director
  • John Shelby Spong, retired Episcopalian Bishop, on gays and the church
  • Farheen Hakeem and Stewart Goldbarg, Muslim and Jewish activists, respectively, together on religion, war, and peace
  • Swami Jaidev Bharati from the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition
  • Ashok Gangadean from the World Commission on Global Consciousness & Spirituality
  • Jim Wallis, President & Executive Director, Sojourners magazine
  • Pam Aasen from the Network of Spiritual Progressives/MN
  • Marie Braun and Dick Bernard, from Minnesota Alliance of Peacemakers
  • The PearlyGate Network’s “Spirit of Peace”™ events and Harvest Festival
  • Steve Morse from the Minnesota Environmental Partnership
  • Dr. Bharat Parekh of United Nations Association/MN
The Spirit Road has lead to places near and far, with conversations promoting American Indian Month, Autumn Equinox, United Church of Christ's "God is Still Speaking" campaign, Generosity Sunday, Earth Day, and Peace in the Heartland.
